1. WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU MEAN BY PLASTIC AND COSMETIC SURGERY? DO YOU USE PLASTIC MATERIALS ALWAYS?
Plastic Surgery means a branch of surgical specialty where we try to mould or give shape to the tissues. Cosmetic surgery is a part of Plastic Surgery where we concentrate on surgical methods to improve one's look and appearance. Actually Plastic Surgery is the specialty of wound healing and we deal with all kinds of non healing wounds, chronic ulcers like diabetic ulcer etc. We do not always use Plastic or foreign materials.
2. CAN YOU MAKE ONE UGLY LOOKING PERSON TRANSFORM INTO A BEAUTIFUL PERSON?
There are limitations. We can improve to certain level only. One must be mature enough to understand the procedure and have realistic expectations about the results
3. IF YOU GO TO A PLASTIC SURGEON, YOU WILL NOT HAVE SCARS AFTER THE OPERATION. IS IT TRUE?
That is not true. Healing of any wound is with scar tissue. But a Plastic Surgeon takes extreme care to get a least visible scar by placing the incision in the natural creases of the body. You must realize that the scars are permenanent and it will take three months to one year to look their best.
4. WHAT ARE THE SPECIALIZED AREAS OF PLASTIC SURGERY?
In addition to Cosmetic surgery which itself is very vast, Plastic Surgeons are the best doctors to manage BURNS, Facial injuries and Hand injuries, Congenital defects like cleft lip, deformities of ear, Hypospadias, fused fingers, Abdominal hernias, skin tumours and very importantly chronic ulcers like diabetic ulcers in the foot.
5. EVERY BODY TALKS ABOUT LIPOSUCTION? WHAT IS IT?
Liposuction is really a very useful procedure to remove localized deposits of fat from the body by an extremely small unnoticeable incision. One must realize that it is not a method of weight reduction.
6. HOW EASY IS THE LIPOSUCTION?
It is a surgical procedure. It can be done under general Anesthesia or local anesthesia. Patient can go home the same day. After liposuction, compressive elastic garments should be worn for 3 weeks to 3 months for better results.
7. WHAT KIND OF PATIENTS BENEFIT FROM LIPOPSUCTION?
It is the method of choice in men with fat deposits in the breast called Gynaecomastia. In females, fat collection in the abdomen, flanks, hips, upper thighs and nape of the necks are the common sites for liposuction
8. WHY ARE THE FAT DEPOSITS ON MY HIPS, THIGHS AND WAIST SO HARD TO BUDGE, EVEN THOUGH I AM EXERCISING AND HAVE A SENSIBLE DIET?
Many women gain weight on their hips and thighs during their teenage years. Often this is of a genetic predisposition. The main contributors to later fat deposition, however, are hormonal changes in a woman, such as pregnancies, menopause or hormone replacement therapy. We encourage patients to have a healthy diet and regular exercise, but this is not sufficient for many patients. Treatment options include liposculpture either with a traditional procedure or sometimes other surgical procedures such as a tummy tuck, or a thigh lift. Once again, one must realize that liposuction is not a method for weight reduction
9. WHAT ARE OTHER COMMON PLASTIC SURGERY DEMANDS YOU COME ACROSS?
Pendulous abdomen and big breasts are very common. They are usually seen after multiple pregnancies. Many women suffer from the hanging pounds of flesh and their after effects like difficulty in walking, knee and heel pain. Some women have neck and back pain. Truly speaking, surgeries for pendulous abdomen and big breasts are not cosmetic surgeries. They are surgeries related to functional restoration.
10. WHAT TYPE OF SCAR RESULTS FROM THE BREAST REDUCTION OPERATION?
Many patients with large breasts over D size become quite symptomatic, suffering from back pain, neck strain and the inability to wear certain clothes. They often inquire about breast reduction and are concerned about what types of scar result from the different procedures. The scars usually lie in the undersurface of breast and not visible. Breast reduction is one of the most successful operations as patients are grateful for the new shape, size and the elimination of symptoms associated with having large breasts
11. WHAT ABOUT SMALL PENDULOUS BREASTS?ANYTHING CAN BE DONE TO IMPROVE ?
Definetely. Small hanging breasts make a woman depressed and withdrawn. She loses her self confidence. Various sizes of breast implants are available. By a simple surgical procedure breast can be made bigger and the sagging can be corrected.
12. WHAT TYPE OF IMPLANT DO YOU PREFER FOR BREAST ENHANCEMENT?
The choice is contingent upon the patient’s shape, the condition of the breast tissue, whether there is droop (ptosis) of the breasts and the overall figure shape. I use a silicone implant.
